Newly Outted Superhero

Welp DC comics has finally revealed their newly gay superhero..Alan Scott aka the Green Lantern is now the latest "gay superhero" and frankly... I think it's great. Now he is not the Green Lantern we have seen Ryan Reynolds play in the self-named movie, but the original.  However, I am still so proud of DC comics for taking the step in making a mainstream, extremely recognizable, and beloved superhero openly gay. He'll be featured in the newest issue of Earth 2 which hits comic book shelves online this coming Wednesday. I  personally love this move and hopefully Alan Scott, as James Robinson, writer of the Earth 2, says will "[Be] someone you would want to watch over your children, Presenting that kind of a heroic role model hopefully will be a good thing and help to show gays in a positive light for people who might be a little more small-minded."

Of course, not everyone is happy about this move. As to be expected there are some conservative groups who are pushing to ban gay superheroes from comics completely. For me, if a gay superhero bothers you or you're afraid your son may emulate someone "gay" (GASP!) how about not buying the comic for them... -__- or is that too difficult of a solution?

A recent poll done by the NY daily news shows that 49% of responders think gay superheroes are "terrible" and comics should remain "escapist fun".... Well there dear responders what about the young LGBTs in the world, where is there fun escape? Why can't they have the same ability as your straight kids to fly away into that magical world of villains and heroes, with someone like them... and not you? What makes straight better.. or even right?

What about you reader? Maybe I'm just angry that people can still be so judgmental and ignorant 2012, but is having a gay superhero really that "terrible"?

I haven't bought a comic in a long time but I may just have to go out and buy Earth 2 to see my new, not just super-, hero in action.
